The Shrine of Our Lady of Montenero is first mentioned in 1335, though the local traditions maintain a former place of worship dating back to the 8th century used to be located on the site of the present edifice. Even so, much of the 14th century edifice was lost during the massive restoration works carried out in 1740 and 1847, such that at present the shrine is structured on three naves. One of the main highlights refers to an 18th century fresco attributed to a certain Battaglia from Castelnuovo Magra.

The shrine is yet another valuable place of worship in Riomaggiore, and it is well worth a visit.
